A beautifully-manicured lawn is only as good as the mower that grooms it. A badly-maintained lawn mower can actually cause damage to your property. This damage can leave your lawn susceptible to disease, insect infestation, and weather-related stress. JPJ Landscaping LLC recommends that you carefully and thoroughly maintain your lawnmower to ensure your lawn is beautiful, thriving, and healthy all season long.
Dull mower blades can actually tear and rip the grass resulting in an irregular edge and crooked-looking lawn. Those edges can also brown and make your lawn look dry and unhealthy. You can avoid this by having the blades sharpened at least twice each year. You can sharpen them yourself or bring them to a hardware store to be sharpened. If they have chips or cracks, you should buy new blades instead.
Spark plugs should be checked and changed, if necessary, once a year. If they are dirty but still usable, you may be able to clean them up and reinstall them. Spark plugs that aren’t working can result in a lawnmower that is difficult to start and wastes gas.
Just as an oil change is important for your vehicle, it’s also important for your lawnmower. Dirty oil can cause significant damage to the mower’s engine and is a low-cost way to prevent high-cost problems. The oil should be changed at least once a season. Be sure to check the owner’s manual for the particular lawnmower you’re using, as some may require more frequent oil changes.
The mower deck needs to be cleaned out every so often as grass, dirt, and leaves can make their home inside, causing the mower to work inefficiently. The best way to do this is to first, and most importantly, make sure the lawnmower is turned off. Next, flip it over and power wash any debris stuck on the underside of the mowing deck.
